Ordinance prohibiting propagation of other religions

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government Friday decided to promulgate an ordinance prohibiting propagation of other religions in certain notified places of worship belonging to any particular religion. The move is mainly aimed at banning propagation of any religion other than Hinduism at the Lord Venkateshwara temple on Tirumala Hills near Tirupati. Taking a strong note of evangelical activities around the famous hill shrine, the state cabinet decided to promulgate the ordinance. Anybody found violating the provisions of the ordinance will be sentenced to three years’ imprisonment or imposed a fine of US$113 or both.

In other news, here, the temple has decided that there will be no "fast-tracking" for celebrities and so the Bachchans, Ambanis, Vijay Mallya, Sachin Tendulkar and other famous pilgrim will have to wait. This comes after protests from devotees that last Sunday the Bachchan family along with newlyweds Abhishek and Aishwarya got VIP treatment at the shrine and were allowed to conduct a 20 minute puja while thousands of devotees waited in the sun for over an hour.
