Bantwal (Karnataka), 13 July : A nursing student from Vittal, currently pursuing studies in Hassan, had come home on holidays earlier this week.
On Friday around 9-30 am, she had come to a shop in Anilkatte to buy grocery and other stuff. While returning home alone, she was accosted by a young man who asked her where her house was and where she had been.
She angrily responded saying that it was none of his business. He continued following her and as they reached a secluded place, he laid his hands on her with an attempt to sexually assault her. She did not get unnerved but resisted his attempts and started bashing him with her umbrella, until it almost broke.
As she kept screaming for help, he fled the spot. The passersby and neighbours who came to her rescue managed to chase and catch him. After giving him a dressing down, the police were called and he was handed over to them.
The man was identified as Shareef (24), who was engaged in painting jobs. He is not married and enquiries revealed that he had done similar acts about two years ago and had been thrashed then also. On that occasion, he had been warned and let off.
