Issue of HJS filing PIL in Mumbai High Court about malpractices in land transactions of Pandharpur Devasthan
Mumbai : Hearing on public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) regarding malpractices in sale of land worth hundreds of acres by Pandharpur Devasthan Samiti, was held on 28th July. The hearing was held before the Bench of Justice Abhay Oak and Justice Chandurkar in which Pandharpur Devasthan Samiti was represented by its advocate. He pleaded for more time as the subject was extensive.
HJS advocate stated that as management of Devasthan was under Law and Justice Department of the State Government; it is also State Government’s responsibility. The Bench issued an order giving one month’s time to both, Pandharpur Devasthan Samiti and State Government to present their side.
Last year, HJS had exposed many cases of corruption related to Pandharpur’s famous Vitthal – Rukmini Devasthan and staged agitations. Devasthan has been donated hundreds of acres of land by devotees; but it is not getting any income from the land; moreover, the Devasthan Samiti did not even have title of the land. There are many malpractices like the above. HJS has, therefore, filed a case as Congress- NCP Government has done nothing. Hearing on the PIL was held on 28th July. Advocate Veerendra Ichalkaranjikar, fought the case for HJS.
