Attempts to destroy ‘Ramar Sethu’ proof

Chennai: AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa on Wednesday, accused Union Surface Transport Minister T R Baalu of making attempts to destroy the proofs regarding the existence of Rama Sethu or Adams Bridge in the Palk Straits.

In a statement in Chennai, she alleged that Baalu visited the famous Saraswathi Mahal library in Thanjavur on April 30, 2007 and intimidated the officials there, besides attempting to destroy the historic documents about the bridge.

The library officials would have provided all the materials in the library to a union minister if asked, but Baalu, without even informing the police went to the library and stayed there for four hours, she said adding that his "secret visit" was only to destroy the documentary evidence regarding the existence of the bridge.

She wanted President A P J Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to order stoppage of work of "demolishing the bridge" for the Sethusamudram Ship Canal Project.

If the work was not stopped immediately, AIADMK would move the courts, she warned.
