Kolhapur: At Shahapur in Hatkanangale taluka, two persons were beaten up by devout Hindus on suspicion of their activities involving conversion of Hindus. Shri. R. R. Patil, the Dy. Chief Minister said that serious note will be taken in such cases as it is wrong to beat up some one when there is no complaint of any kind. Shri. Patil was visiting Kolhapur for personal reasons when he talked to media persons.
He said that Hindu organizations should have complained to the police about conversion instead of taking law in their hands. This can create law and order problems.
Shri. Patil said further that James Lain has written a controversial book defaming Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. We shall never tolerate anything defamatory against Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The State had put a ban on the book but the High Court has lifted the ban and the Govt. will be approaching Supreme Court in the matter. He said that once a copy of the Court decision giving power to the State Governments to impose ban on controversial books is received, the State will re-impose ban on the said book.
Editor Note
Some devout Hindus had informed the police 3 times regarding conversion and police should have intervened realizing the seriousness of the matter. The minister should have called for an explanation from the police for their inaction. If the police are not taking any action despite lodging complaints, what is wrong if the people take law in their hands? There are more than 1200 complaints registered against anti-Hindu painter M F Hussain. Why the police or the Government are mot making any efforts to punish Hussain. If the police fails to act on the complaints registered by the people, what course of action is left for the people? Instead of warning people, the police is required to be made aware of their duties and strict action should be taken against those police who are sitting tight on complaints received from people.
