Another week and Madhuri Dixit will wrap up her film shoot for Aaja Nachle and leave for Denver. Her husband Dr Sriram Nene will be coming to India to take her back home. After spending months at her parents home with her sons Arin and Ryan, Madhuri says that it’s her kids who’ll miss Mumbai more than her. "I am eagerly waiting to go back home," she says.
In spite of her busy schedule, she keeps tab on what’s happening around her. Ask her about the recent controversy surrounding artist M F Husain (he has been accused of "outraging" religious sentiments of the Hindus by painting Hindu deities without much clothes on. The Haridwar court issued a directive to attach the properties of the artist but the Supreme Court later stayed the order), and Madhuri says, "I haven’t seen the so-called controversial paintings. But from whatever I know of him, Husainji will never do anything like that intentionally to hurt the religious sentiments as he is not that kind of a person."
She continues, "He is a nice human being who respects all religions. He doesn’t have a religious bent of mind."
Madhuri had played the lead in Husain’s Gajgamini, a film that was inspired by her. "I am very flattered but Husainji was fascinated by my onscreen persona. I am sure it wasn’t Madhuri the person."
Even though the movie was made sometime back, the artist turned-director and his muse are in touch. "Though we haven’t spoken for sometime, we are in touch. And yes, if there is anything that I have to tell him regarding the controversy, I will call him personally," says the actress not wanting to delve much into the issue.
Madhuri says Hussain is one of her favourite painters, amongst others like Da Vinci, Michaelangelo, Van Gogh and Ravi Varma. He has also gifted her many of his paintings. "I am not an art connoisseur, but yes, I love art. Among the modern day artists, Husainji’s works are something I truly hold in high esteem. He doesn’t deserve the flak," she says adding, Husainji is most definitely India’s pride. He is so unpredictable and so full of youthful energy. At 91, he amazes you by his passion and energy, delighting in the different experiences his work offers him."
Meanwhile, Madhuri is busy planning a Mother’s Day surprise for her mother and mother-in-law on Sunday. "Now that I am a mother, I understand and value all mothers. Trust me guys, they deserve all our love, respect and attention," she says.
