Nowadays people compete to do something different. This inappropriate trend has entered the arena of sculptures and idols of deities too. During the Ganesh Chaturthi, some persons and artists make Ganesha’s idols with food items, waste, paper, glass, sweets, dry fruits etc. According to Murti Vigyan (The Science of idols) and Ganesha Purana, the idol of Lord Ganesha should be made of clay, as is in the folklore of Lord Ganesha’s birth. The first picture shows Lord Ganesha made from food material and second is made out of Coconut.
