VHP links Sethu project to temple issue

By Neena Vyas

NEW DELHI: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s new slogan is `We will save Ram Sethu [Sethusamudram] and build the Ram temple (Ram Sethu bachayenge, Ram Mandir banayenge).

On May 27, the VHP will organise a protest meeting at the Ramlila grounds here where "hundreds of sadhus and sants will be present," VHP leader Ashok Singhal told a press conference here on Thursday.

The VHP central working committee, meeting here for the last several days, has adopted several resolutions. Like the BJP, the VHP too says that while it is not opposed to the Sethusamudram project, it wants the Government to adopt a different alignment that would leave untouched the Ram Sethu, the "bridge" the VHP says was used by Lord Ram to cross into Lanka.
The BJP is organising its own programmes, including a protest cycle rally to be flagged off by Sushma Swaraj from here on May 25.

Three other resolutions were also adopted. The one on the Ram temple said the VHP remained firmly committed to it and "it will not allow any mosque to come up anywhere in Ayodhya as that would become a constant source of friction between Hindus and Muslims."
