Ponda, Goa : The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) submitted a memorandum to the Maharashtra CM Shri. Vilasrao Deshmukh on May 25th, demanding the immediate withdrawal of anti-Hindu Acts, viz. Anti Superstition Act and Temple Takeover Act proposed by the Maharashtra Government. This memorandum consisting signatures of Maharashtrians settled in Goa and devout Hindus of Goa was submitted to Shri. Deshmukh at Savoi-Verem, where he was present to address a meeting. Shri. Deshmukh was in Goa to rally for the Congress for the Goa Assembly polls.

On being presented with the memorandum, Shri. Deshmukh positively asserted that ‘People need not worry about this issue.’ This memorandum states that the Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti is known for its atheism and extremist tendencies.  Thus, it is inappropriate to adhere to its one-sided views and enforce the Anti-Superstition Act. This Act is an attack on Hindu Dharma. Likewise, the Temple Takeover Act which seeks to bring Hindu Temples under Government control while excluding mosques, dargahs, madarasas from its purview, is another anti-Hindu Act. This deceitful policy of the Government has infuriated the Hindu community which is ready to stage an agitation against the said acts. Thus, the Maharashtra Government should withdraw both the said acts with immediate effect. This memorandum also made a reference to the police complaint against M.F. Hussain filed with the Goa Police by HJS member Shri. Dayanand Gaonkar from Bicholim, Goa. This complaint was forwarded to the Cuffe Parade Police Station, Mumbai on the grounds of jurisdiction. Through this memorandum, the HJS has asked the Maharashtra Government to appraise it about the status of the said complaint. The memorandum contains signatures of 290 devout Hindus.
