Goa: The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) submitted a memorandum to the UPA Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi, BJP National President Shri. Rajnath Singh, BJP National leader Smt. Sushma Swaraj, BJP Maharashtra President Shri. Gopinath Munde, BJP Maharashtra leader Shri. Nitin Gadkari, Shivsena leader Shri. Manohar Joshi on their recent visit to Goa. The HJS met these leaders who were in Goa to rally for the June 2 Goa Legislative Assembly polls. Through this memorandum, the HJS has demanded immediate withdrawal of anti-Hindu bills, viz. Anti faith bill and Temple Takeover bill proposed by the Maharashtra Government and to initiate immediate action against anti-Hindu painter M.F. Hussain for painting nude and blasphemous pictures of Hindu deities and BharatMata. This memorandum also demanded immediate re-consideration of the Setu Samudram (Shipping Canal) Project that aims at destroying the historic ‘Shree Ram Setu’ joining India and Sri Lanka built by Lord Shree Rama and His vaanar sena.
This memorandum states that the Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti is known for its atheism and extremist tendencies. Thus, it is inappropriate to adhere to its one-sided views and enforce the Anti faith bill. This bill is an attack on Hindu Dharma. Likewise, the Temple Takeover bill which seeks to bring Hindu Temples under Government control while excluding mosques, dargahs, madarasas from its purview, is another anti-Hindu bills. This deceitful policy of the Government has infuriated the Hindu community which is ready to stage an agitation against the said acts. Thus, the Maharashtra Government should withdraw both the said bills with immediate effect.
This memorandum also made a reference to the 1200-plus police complaints against M.F. Hussain from Goa as well as other parts of the country for his nude and blasphemous paintings of Hindu deities and BharatMata. No heed has been paid to these complaints which are one to one-half years old. The HJS has demanded immediate action in this regard. The memorandum also demanded immediate re-consideration of the Setu Samudran (Shipping Canal) Project that is based on the notion that it is inevitable to break the Shri Ram Setu for easy navigation. The Ram Setu, besides being a monument of religious and historical importance, is a natural barrier to Tsunami and a sea route may be prepared for navigation without damaging the same.
This memorandum consists signatures of Maharashtrians settled in Goa and devout Hindus of Goa. On being presented with this memorandum, various leaders gave the following comments:
