Online signature drive with demand to cancel abottoir at Morba, Raigad
Many Hindu and Jain organisations are opposing the slaughter house being built at Morba, Dist. Raigad. The said abattoir is being built by MMR Industries. The construction is going on from last many days and 75 acre of land had been acquired for the same. It should be noted that Deonar abattoir at Mumbai operates on the 65 acre land and thousands of cows and cattle and many other animals are slaughtered there everyday. Also the land acquired for Morba abattoir is agricultural land and necessary permission to start any industry has not been obtained by the persons behind abattoir. As per the news reports, construction of abattoir was stopped after the legal notice sent by District Collector.
Morba belongs to the land, which was ruled by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who was well known as ‘Go-Brahman Pratipalak’ i.e. ‘Protector of Cows, cattle and Brahmins’. Hence starting the abattoir in such Holy land has hurt sentiments of lakhs of Hindus, Jains and many other Go-premis living here.
Views expressed by eminent personalities
1. Jain Muni H. H. Vinamrasagarji Maharaj : Mechanized slaughter-house is a demon which is required to be fed all the time. If cows / cattle are not brought from outside, those available in Raigad will be attacked first. We are not against any Government; but we will not hesitate to oust it if it is attacking our Dharma. The proposed slaughter-house at Morba should be cancelled and ‘Gou-shala’ will be set up there. Be ready to sacrifice life, if need be, for cancellation of slaughter-house.
2. H. B. P. Bandatatya Karadkar, Warkari Sect : Slaughter-house built at Morba (Dist. Raigad) will result in killing of thousands of animals every year and export of meat to other countries. It will have adverse effect on the environment and health of people from this area. It is claimed by many slaughter-houses that cows/ cattle would not be slaughtered there; but everyone knows the truth behind such claims.
3. Shri. Abhay Vartak, Sanatan Sanstha : The Government gives Rs. 200 crores to Deonar abattoir every year where 10 crores of animals have been slaughtered so far. This abattoir is set up on 65 acres of land whereas the proposed abattoir at Morba will be built on 75 acres of land which indicates its magnitude. The Government has funds to save tigers that kill cows; but it is handing over cows, worshipped by Hindus, to butchers.
