HJS demands cancellation of Ravi Varma Award to MF Husain

Nagpur: Kerala Government has been presenting Raja Ravi Varma Award for the past few years to artists.The said award for this year was recently announced to anti-Hindu painter M. F. Hussain by Shri. M. A. Baby, the Educational and Cultural Minister of Kerala State. A representation demanding withdrawal of the award, which comprises of Rs.1,25,000/- in cash and a medal, to Hussain was submitted by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) to the district collector of Nagpur. Hussain has drawn indecent pictures of Hindu deities and Mother India. Many Hindu organizations have condemned the decision of Kerala Government to confer the award on Hussain.

The representation was signed by Shri. Atul Deshmukh of Hind Swaraj Abhiyan, Shri. Vasantrao Chandurkar of Sant Dnyaneshwar – Tukaram Vishwa Pratishthan, Mrs. Mamata Chinchwadkar of Tejaswini Vichar Manch, Shri. Gajanan Deshpande of VHP, Shri. Gangadhar Vakil of Mayureshwara Seva Mandal, Shri. Trimurti of Vivekananda Kendra, Shri. Vasantrao Abale of Hanuman Mandir, Shri. Dilip Pagnis and Shri. Shrikant Pisolkar of HJS, Shri. Jayant Bendre and Shri. Vinay Shastri of Sanatan Sanstha, among others. Dharmaseva Pratishthan, Bharat Jagruti Morcha and Shree Sampradaya have extended support to the representation.
