- 50 ‘Dindis’- 5 lac Warakari– ‘squatting’ agitation (Vakhari, 26 Jul 07)
- Warkari Oppose anti-Hindu Acts (Aurangabad, 19 Jun 07)
Vakhari (Maharashtra): Warakari staged ‘squatting’ demonstrations against the so-called anti-superstitions Act and the proposed ‘Temple take-over’ Act so also for lack of amenities in holding ‘Palakhi’ ceremony. In this agitation, 5 lac Warakari took part from 50 ‘Dindis’. Shri. Govindraj, the District Collector gave an assurance in writing that he would discuss the matter with them considering the aggressive stance taken by Warakari.
Many clauses in the so-called eradication of superstitions Act are against Warakari. Although the Government has sought public opinion on the said Act, no details about the Act are published. Further, under the proposed ‘Temple take-over’ Act, the Government is trying to take over management of all Hindu temples. Both the above Acts are anti-Hindu and should be annulled. The above demand was made by Warakari and instead of carrying on their journey towards Pandharpur, they squatted on the roads at Vakhari for about 1-1/2 hours. They had resolved not to move from there till they obtained a written assurance from the Government. The Government, therefore, gave in writing that it would discuss every clause of anti-superstitions Act with Warakari within 6 months. A committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Shri. Babanrao Pachpute, the Forest Minister.
