National Flag
Thiruvananthapuram: The wrong depiction of National Flag in the diaries given to school students in Kerala as part of an environment awareness programme caused embarrassment to the ruling LDF in the state assembly on Thursday, as Education Minister M A Baby expressed regret for the mistake.
Raising the matter as a submission, Opposition Congress member T N Prathapan wanted the government to withdraw the diaries given under the "My Tree" environment awareness programme as it showed the National Flag with five colours. The diary also had a picture of Mahatma Gandhi that could not be recognised by anybody, while the picture of Karl Marx had been given more prominence, he said.
Admitting the mistake in the picture of National Flag, Baby said the slip up happened at the printing press and steps would be taken to rectify the same.
In the case of the picture of Mahatma Gandhi, Baby dismissed the charge was baseless. Two pictures, one during the youth time of Gandhi and another in his old age had been included in the diary, he said.
The diary contained many informative matters beneficial to the students and it had been appreciated by everybody, he said. However, Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy wondered how the mistake in the National Flag could be rectified as the books had already been circulated among the students. Chandy also pointed out that the National Flag is always shown as flying toward the right side, but in the diary it was shown on the left side. "I like to know how it happened," he asked.
