Thane (Maharashtra): Every year, the State Government of Kerala declares Raja Ravi Verma award to some artist. This year’s award has been declared for anti-Hindu painter M F Hussain who is notorious for drawing nude and obscene pictures of Hindu deities. A representation was given to Shri. S. S. Zende, the District Collector demanding withdrawal of the award conferred on Hussain.
Hussain has also drawn a denigrating picture of Bharat Mata along with such pictures of Hindu deities. In 1500 police stations, complaints have been lodged against Hussain for banning his pictures and at more than 10 places, court cases have been going on against him. It has been mentioned in the representation that in such background, it is very wrong to declare such award to Hussain.
Raja Ravi Verma was an ideal painter. ‘Bhava’ is invoked on watching pictures painted by him. The award given under the name such great artist to Hussain is like an insult to Raja Ravi Verma. The representation was submitted in the presence of Shri. Sadgeer Maharaj, keertankar and district president of VHP, Adv. Subhash Kale, the ex-mayor of Thane, Mrs. Shubhangi Khandekar, the President of BJP (women’s wing), Shri. Vishwas Damale, convener of Bharateeya Navavarsha Swagat Yatra, Shri. Vasant Rahate and Shri. Madhukar Bhosale of Janakidevi temple and members of HJS.
