Permission to slaughter cattle in the slaughter house stays …
Panaji (Goa) – An order banning the slaughtering of cattle anywhere in the state of Goa other than the slaughter house at Usgao on the day of Bakri Id was passed by the Division Bench of Mumbai High Court on 30th September 2014. It is also stated in the order that the Government should implement the order in earnest. The Muslim Jamat Sanghtana also should be vigilant to see that no other places the slaughtering of cattle is done.
Goa Muslim Jamat Sanghtana had appealed to the High Court stating that arrangements for slaughtering cattle should be made at other places also. The Government had conveyed to the High Court on 30th September about their inability to procure other places for the said purpose due to paucity of time; hence the High Court rejected the petition of Muslim Jamat Sanghtana and gave permission to slaughter cattle in the Goa slaughter house only, after fulfilling all the legal requirements.
As per the law cattle-slaughter is prohibited in the land of Goa. Only bulls not yielding any financial gain are allowed to be slaughtered. The cattle-protectors state that in fact a bull is useful financially till its death due to its cow dung used as manure and its urine; yet presently the court has given permission to slaughter bulls crossing 12 years of age. While passing the order the High Court has stated that the slaughtering should be done only by the employees in the slaughter house and nobody else. The court has given instructions to fix CCTV cameras from the main gate of the slaughter house to the place where the bulls are going to be examined by vets. One cattle-protector too is given permission to be present at the venue. The judge has instructed to the cattle-protector that he can tell orally if any objectionable activity is noticed by him. There should not be any disorder. Whatever is taking place will be captured in the CCTV cameras. Later you come to us. (What is the use of informing the court after the crime has been committed ? An innocent animal will lose its life. Should that have any value or not ? Are the CC TV cameras installed to avoid the untoward instances or is it just an eye wash for the cattle-protectors ? – Editor, Dainik Sanatan Prabhat) The cattle-protector has not been given any authority to stop the objectionable killing.
Government should immediately decide the stand to be taken by the cattle-protectors with regard to this ! – Order of the court to the Government
Judge gave an instruction to the Government senior advocate, Mr. Atmaram Nadkarni to fix the Government stand to be taken relating to cattle-slaughter in the coming days; so that an order can be passed relating to the PIL submitted by the cattle–protecting campaign. The next hearing is fixed on 10th November.
