Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) today organised a human chain in 4,000 places across the country in protest against atrocities on women, including ‘Love Jihad’.
In the national capital, around 200 students gathered at the Delhi University campus to form a chain and protest against issues like female foeticide, ‘love jihad’, rape and eve teasing, among others.
“The move is aimed at restoring respect for women and ensuring safety for them. During a recent national level meeting, ABVP had decided to form vigilante groups at universities to curb such crimes,” said Rohit Chahal, national secretary, ABVP, said.
He also said that similar human chains were organised in around 4,000 places across the country, adding that it is a general awareness campaign to sensitise the youth against these issues and ensure that women in our country feel safe.
Other issues raised during the protest were regarding the consumption of liquor and drugs by youth.
“Use of liquor and drugs spoils our youth and leads to an increase in atrocious crimes. We aim to discourage the youth from consuming them,” the ABVP leaders said.
