Mumbai (Maharashtra): The Joint Review Committee (JRC) had set time limit till 30th July for people to send their opinion on the Maharashtra Eradication of Black Magic and Evil and Other Practices Act, 2005. In the meeting of the committee held today, the time has been extended upto 30th August.

Shri. Ramadas Kadam had written to the Government seeking extension of time limit. In the meeting of the JRC, Shri. Chandrakant Handore, President of JRC, S/Shri. Madhu Chavan, Ganapatrao Deshmukh, Subhash Desai and M. A. Aziz, the other members were present. It was declared by the Government that copies of the Act were now available in all offices and printing presses of the Government. More than 10,000 letters have been received so far by the Government in this context.

In a letter published by Shri. Ramadas Kadam, the leader of the Opposition, it has been mentioned that although it was informed in the advertisement published by the Government that copies of the Act were available in all Govt. printing presses; it has been advised by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) that such copies were not available in Kolhapur and Pune Press and it is difficult to obtain public opinion on the said Act. As for almost half of the July, the copies were not available, it will not be possible for people to register opinion by 30th July and he recommended that the time limit be extended till 30th August.
