A "secular" group of 33 artists, writers, film-makers, art enthusiasts and academicians from India (their names remain undisclosed) has issued a statement in support of the rogue Muslim artist M. F. Husain, and expressed concern at the filing of cases against him for offending Hindu sentiments with his nude paintings of Hindu deities and Mother India.
To the "secular" eyes of this group, Mr. Husain’s nude and obscene paintings represent the multi-cultural and multi-religious mosaic of Indian identity, and to accuse him of religious insensitivity or disrespect for Bharat Mata is an example of ignorance, and such mischievous acts arise out of a narrow-mindedness which is completely contrary to the tolerance and breadth of Indian culture.
