Dramas ridiculing deities should be opposed with a cudgel!

Strong opinion of the great stage artist Prabhakar Panshikar

Shiroda (Sindhudurg): The great stage artist Shri Prabhakar Panshikar opined that ridicule of deities on stage is not only blasphemy but that mere protests will not stop this and that the spectators need to take up cudgels to protest against this. According to him if this is not done then such denigration of Hindu deities will never stop. He said as he addressed the gathering at the programme ‘Sangitmay Hitaguj’organised in his honour by the Rotary Club at Sri Mauli Sabhagruha Shiroda in Vengurla taluka that today dramas denigrating Hindu deities are being staged. When asked for his comments Shri panshikar replied,”Some of our people find these dramas humourous as a result of which dramatists are encouraged to create more such plays. M.F. Husain sketched nude pictures of Hindu deities and the government presented him with an award. This can happen only because of our tolerant nature. Drama is a medium of creating social awareness. New artists need to realise this.

Today’s dramas being full of mistakes in speech, vulgar body gestures, out of boredom spectators have now turned to television. With passage of time people will get tired with television as well and return to drama. That is why dramas need to be of good quality. He was speaking in the presence of rotary club President Shri Ratnadeep Malvankar, Sarpanch of Shiroda Shri Rajan Gavde and other members after he was felicitated.
