Thane (Maharashtra): State Government is trying to pass ‘Maharashtra eradication of black magic and evil and aghouri practices Act, 2005’. More than 25 lawyers from Thane District Court have opposed passing of this Act and have sent a representation to the State Government for its annulment.

Adv. Nilima Vaidya and Adv. Tanuja Prabhudesai explained the detrimental clauses of the proposed Act to the lawyers from Thane District Court and about the draft of the said Act. Most of the lawyers were not aware of the proposed Act and praised HJS members for their tough standpoint on the issue. Later more than 25 lawyers signed the representation as their strong opposition to the proposed Act and sent the same in the name of Shri. B. N. Kambale, the Additional Secretary to Maharashtra State. An advocate from Bhiwandi Court, who was present there, asked for a copy of the draft of the proposed Act from Adv. Vaidya and said that he would inform lawyers from Bhiwandi and send representation against the proposed Act from Bhiwandi. Adv.
