Mumbai (Maharashtra): Time limit seeking public opinion on anti-Superstition Act has been extended again till 30th September. It is the result of strong demand made by most of the members in the meeting of Joint Review Committee set up by the State Government in this regard. It was, however, learnt that no discussion on the demand made by non-Marathi speaking population in Maharashtra took place regarding their interest in offering opinion on the said Act.
The Government is planning to give proper publicity at district and taluka level so that rural population will be able to send their opinions. In the JRC meeting, Shri. Ramdas Kadam, opposition leader and other members demanded extension of time and Shri. Chandrakant Handore, the Minister for Social Justice agreed for the same since majority of members recommended extension of time. Many members were of the view that although there is no question of supporting evil and ‘aghouri’ practices; the Act should not put restrictions on religious sentiments of anyone.
