Nasik (Mahatashtra): Thirty-six Bajrang Dal activists were arrested on charges of demolishing a library in Mamdapur town for keeping a book allegedly containing objectionable references against Lord Rama, police said on Monday.
The situation in Mamdapur, where police fired in the air to disperse the mob on Sunday, was under control with the deployment of personnel from State Reserve Police Force.
Those arrested have been booked for rioting. Copies of the book in Marathi, Ramayanatil Satya (The Truth in the Ramayana), was later impounded by the police.
Originally written by social reformer Periyar Swami, the book was translated by Bhimrao Sakhade and kept at Sant Gadgebaba public library run by Dattu Rambhau Wagh.
Wagh had told reporters on Sunday that he had not purposely brought the book but ordered it along with other publications.
