Bangalore: Reacting to DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi’s recent remarks on Lord Ram, former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda today said that Ram was a divine reincarnation and cannot be termed as an imaginary character.
"My party’s view is that we cannot say Lord Ram is imaginary. He is a divine reincarnation. There are many proofs for it. We should not talk lightly on the issue," Gowda told reporters when his reaction was sought on the issue.
He also said: "There is a difference of opinion in UPA also. I don’t want to aggravate it (by my comments)".
Deve Gowda said he has faith and belief in God, irrespective of religion – be it Hinduism, Islam, Christianity or Sikhism – and has visited many places of worship.
He earlier released the party’s manifesto for the coming elections to urban local bodies in Karnataka.
