Tanmarg : The nine Pakistani militants killed in Tangmarg by the Army three days ago were on a mission. They intended to blow-up the rail tracks and bridges besides trigger blasts in J&K, reveals dairies recovered by the Army and accessed by CNN-IBN.
The diaries also have graphic details of how to handle explosives, fit detonators and plant bombs under the tracks, maps and diagrams indicating they were tasked to carry out unprecedented subversion in Kashmir. How serious the mission was is revealed by the high tech devices recovered: night vision devices, GPS, satellite phones.
"Given the sophisticated arms, they were here for disruption of the rail service", said Lt. Col. Mathur, Army spokesman.
The Rs 11,000 crore train link to the Valley is scheduled to start operating from next year with work on in full swing.
Locomotives and bogies have been brought to Srinagar by road and trial runs between Srinagar and Pulwama carried out.
The militants were barely 20 km away from the rail track and had they managed to slip the cordon on that day, they might have already been in the final stages of carrying an attack.
A project in which the Prime Minister himself has taken personal interest, the rail link has been on the hit list of militants.
In 2002, militants nearly succedded in stalling the project by killing a railway engineer and his brother in Pulwama district.
