Mumbai: National flags made of paper and plastic are used on Republic Day and Independence Day; but later, they are thrown anywhere and everywhere which amounts to denigration of national flags. A representation was given to the Government on behalf of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) to prevent such denigration. The Government has finally issued a circular in this regard to maintain the sanctity of national flag. (Our Govt. acts only when somebody represents. Why the Government machinery could not see what HJS observed. We do not need such democracy which is devoid of respect towards motherland – Editor)
For the last 5 years, HJS has been giving representations to the Government for prevention of denigration of national flag. (Sluggish Govt. requires 5 years to take action. – Editor) HJS has been demanding imposition of a ban on use of national flags made of paper and plastic. It has even appealed to people through the medium of newspapers and tried to create awareness among them on this issue. This year, representation was given to the Chief Minister, Dy. CM, Principal Secretary, Opposition leaders in Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council for prevention of national flag’s insult.
More than 30 lawyers from Mulund Court had extended support to this drive undertaken by HJS. Representations were sent by lawyers who are members of HJS on their letterheads. The Government had provided a copy of circular issued by the General Administration, along with its answer to the lawyers, which says that as per the ‘Prohibition of Contempt of National Honour Act, 1971’, the Home Ministry does take action against those insulting national flag.
