Mumbai : Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has filed a petition in Mumbai High Court requesting for proper organization of Kumbh-Mela held every 12th year at Nashik and Tryambakeshwar. The hearing was held before the Bench of Justice Mohit Shah and Burgess Colabawala.

During last hearing, the Court had asked the Central Government, State Government, Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) and other Government departments to present their side. NMC therefore, filed its affidavit and its advocate stated in the Court that there is no adequate land available for organization of Kumbh-Mela and there was need for 269 acres of land for construction.

The Kumbh-Mela will start from 15th July 2015; but there is no response from the State Government on making available such land. People, whose land the  Government has taken for Kumbh-Mela, have again gone to Court. After hearing all sides, the High Court has put a stay on Government’s process of taking over lands. All these things have created lot of tension for NMC.

The Bench of High Court has now given order to the Central Government, State Government, NMC and other Government Departments to file written statements by 12th January and the next date of hearing has been kept on 19th January 2015. The budget for the Kumbh-Mela is Rs. 4105.00 crores, the Central Government have not provided any funds. In the year 2003, the Central Government had extended financial aid of Rs. 100 crores for the last Kumbh-mela. HJS therefore, filed a petition in Mumbai High Court as its staging agitation or writing letters to the Government did not fetch any result.
