Mumbai (Maharashtra): Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) and other devout Hindus had lodged a complaint with the Ghatkopar Police Station against sale of crackers with pictures of deities in the area under its jurisdiction that bursting of such crackers hurts religious sentiments of Hindus. But it has been observed that sale of these crackers is going on with the connivance of police. Police are not taking cognizance of any complaints lodged by Hindus and therefore, enraged Hindus are asking whether they should take law in their hands like Muslims. (Police were very prompt in confiscating crackers with name of Prophet Mohammad printed on them; but the same police is paying no heed to complaints by Hindus. This is the result of excessive tolerance shown by Hindus. Hindus must unite to fight against injustice meted out by police. – Editor)
A written complaint in this context was lodged with the Dy. Commissioner of Police of Zone -7 on 3rd November and on 8th November, with a senior police inspector of Ghatkopar Police Station by members of HJS and police had assured to take necessary action. The HJS members, however, noticed that sale of crackers with deities pictures, was still going on in 15 shops. There is a small police station very close from these shops. (Police allowing sale of such crackers openly in the market are anti-Hindus – Editor).
Many devout Hindus called up police station and enquired as to why no action was being taken against sellers of these crackers; but the reply from the police was that they had not received any complaints. Some Hindus, however, informed on the condition of anonymity that they had witnessed some monetary transactions taking place between the police and the sellers of such crackers. When reporter of ‘Dainik Sanatan Prabhat’ contacted the police station in the afternoon and asked that why police was not taking any action against sale of crackers and should the matter be reported in the newspaper when he was told not to report it and was assured that instructions would be issued immediately against sellers of crackers. In the evening, however, Sanatan’s reporter checked in Khot galli in Ghatkopar and found that the crackers like, Lakshmi Bar, Krushna Double Bar etc. were still on sale.
Shri. Shivaji Vatkar, Mumbai District Coordinator of HJS has informed that complaint will be lodged with senior police officials about Ghatkoar police station as they are dillydallying taking action against the vendors selling crackers with pictures of deities.
