Importance of inculcating Hindu Dharma-sanskar in children right from their childhood

Hindus need to inculcate Dharma-sanskar in children from early age and teach them to abide by Dharma so that they would develop love and respect towards their Dharma !

balsanskarFollowing is a real-life story told by one of the Hindus who had been abroad… A representative example of the mentality of Muslims as such and the learning that we as Hindus can take from that…

“We came to Canada in July 2014. Here, arrangements for our stay were made temporarily and we got an apartment in a housing colony. Our neighbour was a Pakistani Muslim family. They used to talk to us whenever we bumped into each other. They had 2 daughters and a son; the eldest daughter being 6 years old, younger daughter 3 yrs and the son was only 2 months old.

  1. Conversation with the Muslim girl when she came to our house to play : I have a 5 year-old son named Ashab. Our Pakistani neighbour’s daughters used to come to play. In August 2014, their 6 year-old daughter came to our house. The following conversation took place with her.
  2. A. She asked, “Why are you not Muslims ? Muslims are God’s children (Allah ke Bande). Then why are you not Muslims? Alas, if you too were Muslims !”

I : Child, we are Hindus. As you follow Islam, we follow our Hindu Dharma. As you feel your religion is good, we also feel our religion is good. We call our God as Bhagavan. We are His children and devotees. We worship Him, pray to Him and He helps us to go to heaven.

Muslim girl ties scarf although she doesn’t like to do so

Muslim girl: Muslim girls have to tie scarf as they get heaven by doing so. You do not wear scarf; then how will you get heaven ?

I: As you get heaven by tying scarf, we get heaven by praying to Srikrushna.

Muslim girl : I don’t like to tie scarf; but I am tying it since it helps to get heaven and as my parents have told me.

It is necessary to inculcate ‘sanskars’ in children from young age so that they abide by Dharma with faith ! : Srikrushna taught me through this incident that whatever we teach our children is believed by them. The ‘sanskars’ we inculcate in them and information about Dharma that we give is absorbed by their inner mind and they never forget it; therefore, we should teach our children everything about our Dharma and its importance. We feel that our child is still young and it would not understand whatever we tell about Dharma but it is not so.

The above incident made me realize that if we teach children Dharma from their childhood, they respect Dharma wherever they go, even in other countries.
