New Delhi: Strongly objecting to Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s remarks against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP on Sunday said he was "a nationalist fighting anti-national forces".
Flaying the Congress-led UPA government for its "soft approach" towards terrorism, BJP vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the scourge has witnessed an increase and spread all over the country.
"Narendra Modi is a Yamraj (messenger of death) for terrorists and all other anti-national elements and Yuvraj (prince) of nationalism," Naqvi said here while reacting to Gandhi’s remarks that the Gujarat government was being run by "peddlers of death".
Gandhi made the comments during an election rally in the poll-bound state on Saturday.
The BJP leader said it was only because of Modi’s strong policy against terrorism that anti-national elements were unable to operate in Gujarat.
"On the other hand, the Union government led by the Congress is pursuing a soft approach towards terrorism and as a result, incidents of bomb blasts and other activities are on the rise all over the country," Naqvi said.
"Congress is linking fight against terrorism to religion. It is soft on terrorism because of its vote-bank politics," the BJP MP said.
"It is clearly reflected by the Congress’ actions of repealing laws like POTA and efforts to save Mohd Afzal, who was convicted in Parliament attack case," Naqvi alleged.
Praising Modi for his performance as a Chief Minister, Naqvi said he had undertaken several developmental works in the state.
