No place for Hussain’s paintings in Art exhibition

Mumbai: In the month of March, a big exhibition will be held in Mumbai which will have paintings by renowned artists like Raza, Sauza , Tayba etc. Paintings selected from 21 exhibitions held all over the country have been selected for this exhibition. The organizers are, however, keeping mum about inclusion of Hussain’s paintings in the exhibition. (Hindu Janajagruti Samiti first brought to the notice of people that Hussain has drawn obscene paintings of Hindu deities. HJS has undertaken a mission to fight against denigration of Hindu deities and has forced Hussain’s paintings to be withdrawn from exhibitions – Editor).

This might be the first such huge exhibition being held in India with Mumbai as a host. The exhibition will be held from 14th to 16th March at World Trade Centre and will exhibit 400 works of well known artistes. The exhibition will be inspiring for rich and new artistes like Shri. Chintan Upadhyay, Shri. M. S. Joshi, Nilofer Wadia etc; but it is not yet known whether Hussain’s paintings will be on exhibit as the chief organizer Shri. Vikram Sethi has also not divulged about inclusion of Hussain’s paintings in the exhibition. It shows that organizers fear that inclusion of Hussain’s work could create problems for them.

In an exhibition held two months back at ‘India International Centre’ in New Delhi, members of Shiv Sena had held demonstrations at the centre and Hussain’s paintings had to be withdrawn from the exhibition. Two paintings were even torn by the devout mob and the Bajarang Dal had threatened the organizers.
