BJP condemns PM’s minority remark

Updated News

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday sought to compare Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with Mughal rulers for his reported remarks that the first right on the nation’s resources belonged to the minority communities."The statement is objectionable and most condemnable. By saying this, the prime minister is behaving like Mughal rulers," party leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra said at a press conference in Delhi.

"Although it was expunged from the House proceedings today, I would like to repeat the comparison here once again," he said.Malhotra said of the 36 crore people living Below Poverty Line, 30 crore are from the Hindu community and only 6 crore are from the Muslim community.

"Although there should not be any discrimination against the Muslims, discrimination towards the Hindus in the country is highly unfortunate," he said. The saffron party also opposed scholarship to Muslim students saying merit and need should be the only criteria for scholarships.

The BJP also held the Congress responsible for the plight of the Muslims in the country saying "of 61 years of Independence, 50 years have been of Congress rule and of it 45 years have been by one single family. One can infer who is responsible for the minorities’ plight".Malhotra alleged that the policy followed by the Dr Singh government was that of "perverted secularism.

BJP compares PM with Aurangzeb!

March 13,2008

New Delhi: The BJP attacked the Union Budget calling it ‘communal’ and compared Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with Mughal ruler Aurangzeb claiming the former had said Muslims had the first right over the state’s resources.

"In the budget, government said if a Muslim student goes for higher education he would be entitled to scholarship. Why is it that there is nothing for a poor Hindu student or a Dalit student? Doesn’t it amount to encouraging conversion?" BJP Parliamentary Party leader V K Malhotra said while launching the Opposition attack on the Budget in Lok Sabha.

Accusing the UPA government of resorting to vote-bank politics, he said, "the Prime Minister said Muslims have the first right on government resources. After Aurangzeb, Manmohan Singh is the first person who said so. This is like bringing back Jizya. We believe in justice for all and appeasement to none."

He said that a situation was being created which existed just before the creation of Pakistan.

"No communalisation of budget and no Jizya," he told the House.

Malhotra’s assertions generated anger among Treasury Benches who demanded that they be expunged.

The BJP leader said the fall in benchmark Sensex soon after the budget was due to withdrawal of huge money by the foreign financial institutions. He pointed out that terrorists were minting money out of the stock exchanges.
