Pune (Maharashtra): Activists of a local organisation Hindu Garjana on Wednesday attacked the office of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) here, injuring three party workers and damaging some vehicles parked in its premises.
Armed with wooden sticks, about 15 to 20 Hindu Garjana activists attacked the CPI-M office in Narayanpeth denouncing the party for the killing of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) workers in Kerala’s Kannur district last month.
Hindu Garjana chief Dhiraj Ghate, who led the attack, told media persons that he was also a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker and that the CPI-M would face similar retaliatory attacks elsewhere.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajendra Sonawane said it appeared from the slogan shouting by the assaulters that they were BJP workers.
Sonawane said CPI-M office secretary Ajit Abhyankar had intimated the police in the morning about some suspicious looking persons reconnoitring the party office and said action would be taken after registering the statement of the injured CPI-M workers, who are in hospital.
BJP state unit president Nitin Gadkari said that he would refrain from making any comment till he had details of the incident. Another party leader Prakash Jawdekar parried a query about BJP’s involvement in the attack, saying: "Let’s try to tone down the severity of such incidents".
The RSS local unit held a public meeting in the city Monday protesting the killing of five RSS workers and maiming of 12 others in a series of attacks by CPI-M cadres in Kannur.
During a similar rally in Aurangabad the same day, RSS and BJP workers burnt a Communist Party of India (CPI) flag, saying CPI and CPI-M were virtually the same.

Aurangabad (Maharashtra): The activists of Rastriya Swayamsewak Sangha and pro-Hindu workers staged strong protest demonstrations at Paithan Gate here against the ongoing attacks on the Sangha activists in Kannur district of Kerala by the workers of Communist Party of India (Maxist). A number of CPM workers also gathered at the venue of demonstrations and resorted to stone throwing on the demonstrators and tried to create disturbance. (It is ironical that despite the incidence of RSS workers being killed in Kerala by the Marxists, there is opposition to Hindu protest in Aurangabad. The Hindus should remember that they are being targeted through various means throughout the country. What preparations have you made to protect your survival? – Editor) However, the ardent Hindus retaliated and gave a good beating to them. As there was tension in the atmosphere, the police resorted to cane charge. Taking strong objection to the cane charge on the pro-Hindus, Shri. Haribhau Bagde, ex-MLA told the police, "If you don’t stop attacking the Hindus, you will have to face dire consequences." When the ardent Hindus demanded that the Marxists must be arrested, the police took action and arrested Marxist workers. The situation then came to normal.
At the commencement of the demonstrations, the Sangha activists burnt the effigy of CPM. When the CPM indulged in stone throwing, the ardent Hindus gave various slogans including ‘Vande Mataram’. About 500 ardent Hindus participated in the demonstrations.

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) today staged a token sit-in here against ”murderous assaults” on Hindus in Kerala.
Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Sunderlal Patwa was among those who took part in the sit-in, led by RSS Prant Sanghchalak Shashi Bhai Seth.
”Attacks on RSS workers in West Bengal and Kerala are part of a conspiracy orchestrated by Left parties,” alleged Mr Seth while addressing a meeting coinciding with the sit-in.
