Affidavit must from convent schools to observe national holidays

Chaitra Shuddha Dwitiya

Mumbai: Referring to the raging controversy that the English medium schools and convent schools in the state do not observe the national holidays, 15th August and 26th January, Shri Vasant Purke, School Education Minister assured the house that while giving permission to new English schools, an affidavit would be obtained from them to observe the national holidays. (Does this mean that the schools already in existence are given the concession not to observe national holidays? Seems Bharat is the only country in the world, where exist schools which do not observe national holidays – Editor)

Dr. Deepak Sawant of Shiv Sena recently raised a point of order and informed the house that the international English medium schools and the convent schools did not organise flag hoisting programme and did not sing national anthem. (Needless to say that the Christian schools that prohibit singing of national anthem and hoisting of national flag will only produce self-aggrandised generation that lacks national pride. Such schools and the parties like the Congress, which give recognition to these schools, attract the crime of rank treason. The true nationalist must finish the rule of the Congress that cuts off the next generation from the country. – Editor)

While the minister assured that a code of conduct would be prepared for such school, Shri Diwakar Raote of Shiv Sena strongly demanded that these schools, which do not sing national anthem, should to be declared as ‘treacherous’. Shri Madhu Chavan demanded that such schools should be sealed.
