Solapur- 5th June- The controversial painter M F Hussain for his denigrating and obscene
paintings of Hindu deities like Durga and Saraswati among others, seems to be very popular
with NCERT (National Council of Education Research and Training). This institution has
included some portion of his biography in its SSC curriculum. Students studying Hindi will now
have to study biography of M F Hussain published by NCERT. Besides, NCERT has directed
the students of 11th standard to collect Hussain’s paintings too.
The institution has also attempted to cut off social relations through its books like
Antara, Kshitij, Vasant and Aaroh. Not only this, these books also have unconstitutional words
just to pull off political motive. There are also a few words offending scheduled castes.
In the Hindi language text books set for 9th and 11th standard, poems by renowned
poets like Suryakant Tripathi Nirala, Jayshankar Prasad have been removed. Mahakavi
Tulsidas has also been omitted from the text books of 11th standard. Considering the
Congress parties’ differences with Bachhan family, poems by Harivanshrai Bachhan have
been omitted. Literatures by writers from specific groups have been given a chance in the text
books. Writers like Renu, Dinkar, Benipuri have fallen prey to NCERT’s policies. Nagarjuna
has been included in the 11th standard text books. Similar is the position of Bharatendu
Harishchandra. Only one of his essays has been taken.
People have not yet reacted to omission of poems by poets like Jayashankar Prasad, Nirala,
Adnye, Dinkar, Maithily Sharan Gupta, Harivanshrai Bachhan etc. from the text books
although compared to poets like Prasad and Nirala, very ordinary poems have been taken.
Poems by Dinkar and Mythili Sharan Gupta have been dropped on the grounds of nationalism
whereas Adnye has been dropped due to his specific school of thoughts.
Justice Jender of the Court dealing with sexual offences, has pointed out a few
distorted instances published in the text books. In the book ‘Aaroh’, introduction of
Akkamadevi is not proper. At many places, there are meaningless sentences and some
meanings of words are wrong. Information regarding some authors is incomplete and causes
confusion. Therefore, the text books printed by spending lakhs of rupees are likely to be
controversial.
