Congress have power in more than 15 states in India & also at Central Government. Yet it can’t provide basic amenities to people, then how it can provide road, rail, air etc. to people of Karnataka? We have good example of Maharashtra where thousands of farmers are doing suicide! – Editor

Bangalore: If Bangaloreans were to go by the Congress manifesto, then they need not worry about infrastructure. If voted to power, the party will focus on road, rail and air, and give 24/7 power.

With Bangalore’s infrastructure being an issue in these elections, the Congress has a Rs 50,000 crore investment plan. The manifesto released on Thursday promises to "restore the pride Bangalore internationally had once," which it said, "was destroyed by the JD(S)-BJP government through sheer negligence and contempt."

As a first step, it vows to improve all inter-section roads, construct elevated roads, grade separators under BOT, widen roads in high density corridors, classify roads and upgrade roads under five zones of BBMP covering 700 km.

The party commits itself to providing Metro Rail to BBMP areas through the second phase, complete the circular rail system and modernize railway stations to international standards.

With connectivity to Bengaluru International Airport agitating Bangaloreans, it soothes with the promise of construction of a dedicated express highway to the new airport under BOT/BOO.

Shifting focus to other basic facilities, it says a single agency will bring all service providers like water, transport, housing, power under BBMP.

Bangalore being the IT capital, it promises an IT corridor with a techno fast track road. Maintenance being the key to infrastructure, the manifesto stresses on involving resident welfare associations in maintaining layouts, parks and other civic amenities.

The manifesto says it will mobilise resources by setting up a special purpose vehicle – Rs 20,000 crore each to come from tax revenue from local body and public-private participation and Rs 10,000 crore under JNNURM.
