‘Warakaris shouldn’t consider Hussain’s work as an art’

Vaishakh Shuddha Navami

Sambhajinagar (Maharashtra): Justice Kaul tried to defend his verdict of withdrawing 3 cases against M F Hussain out of 6 by giving some sermons of philosophy. He said, “People with different tastes and faiths live in this country. Tolerance is of utmost importance in a democratic State.” Hindus have faith in their deities and therefore, is it not an assault on their faith to draw perverted paintings of these deities? Why such paintings are of only Hindu deities? M F Hussain can draw a nude painting of his mother. Instead of ‘Bharatmata’, he should write his mother’s name below the painting and may appreciate it as a piece of art.

Hindus will not tolerate such mockery and denigration of their deities. It is not possible to look at such paintings as a piece of art and therefore, our Warakari Sampradaya will never accept malicious Hussain as he has hurt our feelings. He should be appropriately punished for the same.” The above reaction was given by Ha. Bha. Pa. Navanath Maharaj Andhale, the district president of All India Warakari Mandal. He also said that there is a wave of anger among warakaris from whole of Maharashtra against Hussain.
