Mhapsa (Goa):
Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has objected to the wrong and insulting matter published about Mahatma Gandhi in the tenth standard Marathi medium’s text book on ‘History and Political Science’ in Marathi and a complaint was lodged by them at Mhapsa police station today demanding to impose a ban on the said book. The complaint was lodged by a delegation of HJS led by Shri. Jayesh Thali, the coordinator of HJS for the State of Goa.

It has been mentioned in this book that ‘After returning from Africa in the year 1915, Gandhi successfully ran a communal government and he resolved to undertake passive political resistance (Satyagrah) all through out the country against the ‘Rowlett Act’ in the year 1919. It has also been mentioned that owing to terrorism, he asked ‘Satyagrahis’ (agitators) to surrender and walk on their knees and bow before British rulers; after which the agitation had to be stopped. (Page No. 30, 31 and 32). HJS has taken strong objection on this sentence and has demanded imposition of ban on this book. They have also warned that as the new academic year will be starting from June 5, action should be taken against the book prior to the said date and the issue should be tackled at war-footing; however, if the government fails to promptly take action, it will be solely responsible for the consequent outrage of people.
