A social worker from Dombivli has registered a case against actor Sunny Leone, claiming the videos and photographs allegedly put up by the actor on a website “corrupt youngsters’ minds”.
The complainant, Anjali Vinod Palan, 30, told the police she had heard a lot about the actor. So on May 9, she searched for Leone’s pictures on a social networking site. The page had a link to a website bearing the actor’s name, Palan said. When she clicked on the link, she allegedly found Leone’s obscene pictures and videos on the website, Palan said in the complaint. Mrs. Anjali Palan is member of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti’s Ranaragini women’s wing.
Palan, along with two of her colleagues, approached the Dombivli police station on Thursday evening. “We have registered a case against Leone and the unidentified person, who took the photographs and uploaded them on the website. We are investigating the case further,” said SB Shivarkar, senior inspector, Dombivli police station.
The actor has been booked under sections 292, 292 (A), 294 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code for obscenity, various sections of the Indecent Representation Of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, and various sections of the Information Technology Act, 2000. “We will block the website at the earliest,” said JK Sawant, senior inspector, Thane cyber cell.
Cyber law expert Prashant Mali said, “Indecent representation of women is a non-bailable offence, with a maximum imprisonment for five years. The actor could face arrest.”
