New York:
Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy has urged a gathering here and the Indian community in the US to help pro-Hindu causes back home.

He opined that the recent defamation suit filed against Hindu community leader and Indian American Intellectuals Forum president Narain Kataria, Arish K Sahani and others by Indian National Overseas Congress (US) president Dr Surinder Malhotra would not stand and it would lose in the court battle.

The lawsuit was filed by Dr Malhotra against the defendants for allegedly defaming in a New York Times advertisement Sonia Gandhi, the leader of the Congress party and also head of the ruling coalition at the Center.

Dr Swamy addressed a recent community meeting at a Hindu temple in New York and the occasion was a fundraiser for the sake of the defendants.

The Janata Party leader, who has in recent years strongly supported pro-Hindu causes, asked for generously contributing this and other pro-Hindu causes. He asked for defending the freedom of speech and expression enshrined in the US Constitution.

”Kataria is going to win the case hands down,” Dr Swamy told the gathering amid applause.

The 100 million dollar lawsuit was filed by Dr Malhotra in response to the New York Times advertisement that appeared in October 2007.

The ad questioned the choice of Sonia Gandhi to represent India on the International Day of Nonviolence commemorating Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday. October 2 is being celebrated by the United Nations as a day of nonviolence beginning 2007.

The lawsuit claimed the ad allegedly defamed Sonia Gandhi while the defendants insisted that it was based on widely published information.

Dr Swamy in his speech also strongly defended Ram Setu. He said the arrest, ordered by the Tamil Nadu government then headed by Jayalalitha, of Sankaracharya on Diwali day was instigated by the Congress party government at the Center.
