Sunny Deol, Sakshi Tanwar’s ‘Mohalla Assi’ is laced with cuss words

Punctuated with loads of expletives, ‘Mohalla Assi’ starring Sunny Deol and Sakshi Tanwar has Lord Shiv spewing gaalis and we fear that the movie might get in a bit of trouble before being passed by the Censor Board.

The trailer, very cleverly, shows what happens in the bylanes of the city of Varanasi. While you may see dhoti-clad learned man chanting mantras, there’ll be others who wouldn’t bat an eyelid before resorting to using cuss words to have their message conveyed. And there are various of kinds of tourists – from foreigners to total desis.

Sunny Deol plays a Sanskrit teacher and is funny enough while he does that. Sakshi Tanwar is his loud-mouth wife, who also adds to the list of the abusers in the movie.

There’s Ravi Kishen too, who plays the exclusive-to-foreigners tourist guide and does it brilliantly in his desi style.

The movie seems too good and very real by the trailer, but as mentioned earlier, it might just run into the censors for the number and degree of cuss words used.

The title of the film comes from the famous Assi Ghat in Varanasi that is a major tourist attraction. The movie, which was shot in 2011, was shelved for a while, but producer Vinay Tiwari has confirmed for an October-November release.

‘Mohalla Assi’, directed by ‘Pinjar’ helmer Chandra Prakash Dwivedi, is loosely based on the famous hindi novel ‘Kashi Ka Assi’ written by Dr Kashinath Singh.
