Barnala : Trouble for Sunny Deol starrer film ‘Mohalla Assi’ escalated on Monday as an FIR was registered here against Sunny Deol, and director, producer and other actors of the film for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of people. The complaint was lodged at Barnala Sadar police station three days after the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court issued a notice to the censor board on the promos of the film.
Punjab Kanwar Sangh filed a case against the film. The outfit’s president, Tarlochan Bansal, a resident of Tapa town in Barnala, said, “Some derogatory dialogues about the Hindu religion and lord Shiva have been used in the film. An actor impersonating Shiva has been shown clicking pictures with others by charging Rs 100, which has hurt our sentiments.”
Barnala senior superintendent of police Opinderjit Singh Ghumman said, “A case has been registered against director, producer and actors of ‘Mohalla Assi’ for hurting religious sentiments of Hindus. Similar cases have been registered at some other places as well.”
The case has been registered under Section 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the IPC. Apart from Sunny, director Chandar Prakash Dwivedi, producer Vinay Tiwari, writer Kashi Nath Singh and actors Ravi Kishan, Sakshi Tanwar, Saurav Shukla, Mukesh Tiwari and Rajinder have also been named in the FIR.
