Shravan Krushna Chaturthi
Press Release
Support Amarnath Campaign calls worldwide Hindus to a day of prayer on Sunday, August 24 2008 for the victims of Amarnath struggle. Janmashtami, the birthday of Lord Krishna, which falls on the eight day of Shravan, has been chosen for the purpose. Some may also wish to fast.
The struggle for allotment of land for Shri Amarnath pilgrimage is one of the greatest challenges that Hindus around the world are facing today. As we observe the festival of Janmashtami, let us think of the Hindus of Jammu & Kashmir State who are sacrificing their lives, blood and sweat in the hope of bringing a bright future for its people. Let us stand in complete humility and admiration of all those folks – husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters who had risen to the call of duty to support and defend our precious Dharma.
Hundreds of maimed and mutilated Hindus languish, without adequate medical treatment, long-term rehabilitation, meaningful employment, basic material needs or human comfort. Several bereaved families have lost their breadwinners, small children their fathers; aged parents their hope for a secure future.
Amarnath Yatra is a life-long yearning for every Hindu and of all their pilgrimages it is the toughest and the most arduous. The Holy Cave of Amarnath is Lord Shiva’s abode and it is a precious heritage of all Hindus in India and the rest of the world. Almost one hundred thousand pilgrims make the journey every year during the month of Shravan, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. As we offer our prayers during this holy month we urge all Hindus to spend a few moments and ponder about the future of Hindu Dharma and to educate themselves about the grave dangers our Dharma faces today.
We encourage all Hindus to remember those who have suffered in the Amarnath struggle by offering prayers for those who now, more than ever, need our compassion and our support. Temples and organizations are encouraged to develop their own awareness campaigns amongst their members.
May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace, and may their families receive God’s grace and comfort during this time of grief.
