Corporation withdraw support to Anti Hindu Bill due to protest of Varkaris

The demand of passing the much debated and controversial (proposed) Law against Blind Faith was withdrawn by Shri Shantilal Suratwala, a Corporator and ex-Mayor of Pune Municipal Corporation. The anti-Blind Faith Act has not yet been passed in the absence of acquiescence of Maharashtra legislative council. The proposal was put forth by the said Corporator for passing it in the general body meeting of Pune Municipal Corporation and there was a likelihood of stormy discussion on the same in tomorrow’s meeting. On the other hand, the Varkari Sect had registered its strong protest against putting forth such resolution. A meeting of the Varkari Sect was held to protest against passing of the said law. It was also declared that this year, they would not accept felicitation of members of the Sect organized by Pune Municipal Corporation. On hearing this declaration, Shri Suratwala issued a circular that considering the feelings of Varakari sect, the resolution to pass the Act was being withdrawn.
H. Rameshwar Shastri Maharaj said that only withdrawal of the resolution would not do. Those who put forth such resolution in the first place and those who gave their concurrence as also the Municipal Corporation should publicly render their apology. He also demanded that henceforth, the Municipal Corporation should give an assurance that in future, the Corporation would not take any action that would lead to hurting feeling of Hindus.
