Bangladesh : Press conference against Minority repression and threats from Minister

Dhaka : Bangladesh Hindu Boudda Christian Oikkya Parishad (BHBCOP) took initiative to unite minors facing repression at Dhaka and receiving subsequent threats from Minister of local Government. A Press conference was organized by BHBCOP on 6th August, 2016 regarding these issues.

Various periodicals of Bangladesh gave huge publicity to this news. This has led to increase in the feeling of insecurity amongst the Human Rights organizations working for minorities since they have started receiving intimidation from the Local Members of Parliament and Ministers responsible for land grabbing and other Human Rights violations of Minorities in Bangladesh.

It is also reported by the local activists of Puja Ujjapan Parishad and BHBCOP  that the statements made by Adv. Rana Das Gupta, Secretary General of Oikya Parishad in the press conference should be withdrawn; otherwise those responsible for alleging Ministers and MPs will have to face dire consequences.

Adv. Rabindra Ghosh Founder President of Bangladesh Minority Watch (BDMW) had received a call from Engineer Khandker Mosharaff Hossain, Minister of Rural Development & Co-operatives. He intimidated Mr. Ghosh asking an explanation for visiting his house at Faridpur on the last occasion while BDMW was investigating the matter in which the Minister was accused of grabbing land/ temple of a Hindu Owner, Satish Chandra Guha. The Minister asked Mr. Ghosh the reason behind visiting his house without prior permission. He also directed the Inspector General of Police, Dhaka to investigate the visit of Mr. Ghosh at Faridpur and alleged him for creating communal atmosphere in the locality.  As per the directions, Mr. Ghosh was interrogated by the Deputy Police Commissioner at Dhaka. Here, Mr. Ghosh appraised the Deputy Police Commissioner about involvement of Engineer Mosharaff Hossain in the matter of dubious purchase of properties belonging to Satish Chandra Guha.

Bangladesh Minority Watch is very much concerned about the repeated threats received from Engineer Mosharaff Hossain to Human Rights Defenders and also local Minority Activists of Faridpur. Hence, BDMW has demanded urgent action on this.
