Hindus take action to stop defamation through firecrackers

Kartik Shuddha Pratipada

Mumbai: The residents of Vashi’s Palm Beach road lodged a police complaint against the vendors selling firecrackers that had pictures of Hindu deities.  Thus, Dharma-Abhimani (Hindus with love for their Dharma) Hindus compelled action against these salesmen and vendors. (The Hindu Janjagruti Samiti has appealed to one and all from the Chief Minister, and top Government officials, as well as the police on the issue of pictures of Hindu deities being featured on firecrackers which is a denigration of the deities.  The police should in fact themselves take initiative to put a stop to such denigration of deities by taking action against vendors who sell such type of firecrackers! – Editor)

There are about 100 outlets selling firecrackers in the Palm Beach area of Vashi.  Out of these one hundred shops, twenty five shops had firecrackers with the picture of Goddess Lakshmi.  As soon as the members of the HJS realized this they tried to educate the  public about the denigration of deities that such firecrackers would cause.  At that time some shopkeepers covered the firecrackers in an attempt to hide them, and others flatly refused to comply.

Following this reaction from the shopkeepers these loyal Hindus went to the Vashi police stations and lodged an official complaint with the police indicating that the denigration of Hindu deities was taking place when pictures of deities are featured on firecrackers.  Accordingly the police took immediate action against the unscrupulous shopkeepers by taking into Police custody the ‘Lakshmi Bomb’.  Senior police Inspector Shri. Sudhir Chowgule assured the Hindu activists saying that tough action will be taken and fines will be imposed as more investigation on this matter takes place.  He also told the HJS people that they should bring to his notice immediately if they see such items being sold elsewhere again.

In the beginning the police were not so cooperative and they asked the Hindu activists to come again the following day to lodge their complaint. Later shri Shivaji Vatkar walked up to Police Inspector – Mrs. Yevale  and said that “ We came here to lodge a compliant in spite of Diwali festival, when we should be at home”, and added that “the senior police have assured us that such firecrackers will not be sold in the market and if done, strict action will be taken on the sellers, so now please take immediate action”.  After that the police took action.

The people supporting the Hindu activists in this brave act were: Shri. Krushna Pandit of Bharitya Janta Yuva morcha, Shri. Prajesh Kadam of Shri Asaram Bapu samiti,  Shri. Chandrakant Bhoivar  and Shri. Rakesh Goswami of Bajrang Dal,  and BJP’s Shri. Sushant Waghmare, BJP”s New Mumbai candidate Shri. Anant Satpute and Shri. Ramesh Sanil, Rajan Bhurke, Raju Patil, Ramakant Keni etc. (Our heartiest congratulations to these brave people who came forward to stop the denigration of deities in a positive manner,- Editor)
