Nagpur : On 28th August, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) submitted a representation to Mayor Shri. Pravin Datake and municipal councilors Shri. Bandu Raut, Shri. Gopal Bohare and Shri. Dayashankar Tiwari against undertaking drives like immersion of Ganesh idols in artificial water tanks and donation of idols because it is against ‘Dharmashastra’. Mayor Shri. Datake said, “Instructions have been given to immerse idols made of Plaster of Paris (PoP) in artificial water tanks. If you give us in writing how to dispose of such idols, we can make necessary arrangements because a resolution was unanimously passed in the meeting of Municipal Corporation 3 years back that idols made of PoP should be immersed in artificial water tanks instead of in lake or river. Municipal councilor Shri. Dayashankar Tiwari said, “If you create awareness amongst people that they should not buy idols made of PoP, it would help.” Shri. Subhash Zanvar, Shri. Atul Avernla and Shri. Gopal Sharma from HJS were present on the occasion.
