BJP won’t be mute spectator: Rajnath

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday warned the Centre against any attempt to frame Hindu religious leaders and spiritual gurus in terror cases without evidence. Asking the Mumbai Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) to come out with evidence against sadhus and sadhvis in this year’s Malegoan blast, BJP president Rajnath Singh on Thursday cautioned the Government against running a “defamation campaign” against the majority community.

“If this kind of a defamation campaign against Hindu religious leaders and mutts continues, we will not remain silent. The Government should not test our patience,” Rajnath told newspersons here.

The BJP chief also asked whether the UPA Government had the courage to speak in the same voice against the religious leaders of other faiths.

Reiterating that the BJP was not against any kind of probe into the Malegaon blast and punishing any of the accused, if found guilty, the BJP national president also asked the ATS to make public the evidence, if it had any, against the Army officers and Hindu religious leaders.

“It has been more than 25 days that many accused have been picked up in connection with this blast case, but the ATS has not produced any credible evidence. It should make them public,” Rajnath demanded.

He also accused the Government of running a defamation campaign against the Indian Army by trying to suggest that Hindu militants have sneaked into its rank and file.

He felt that the way ATS and other agencies have conducted themselves in this matter would force the people to suspect a “political conspiracy” to divert the public’s attention from the “real issues” of terrorism and inflation.
