Pune (Maharashtra) : Pollution Control Board has been time and again advised to prevent damage caused to environment throughout the year, due to chemical factories, sewage water and solid waste; but no action is being taken; however, the same conceited Municipal Corporation and fake environmentalists hold responsible, Ganesh festival celebrated only once in a year, for pollution; raising objection to immersion of idols in flowing water as per tradition.

Ganesh-devotees are forced at many places to donate their idols or immerse them in artificial water tanks erected by spending crores of rupees.

Instructions should therefore, be given for immersion of idols in flowing water in sea or river as per Dharmashastra. The above demand was made by Shri. Milind Dharmadhikari of HJS and Shri. Chandrashekhar Tandale of Sanatan Sanstha during the press conference held on 3rd September at ‘Shramik Patrakar Sangh’. Smt Pallavi Patil of ‘Srushti Eco Research Institute (SERI)’ and her colleagues were also present on the occasion.

Shri. Dharmadhikari said, “As per the information received under RTI, Shri. Ganesh idols are carried in garbage vans; causing desecration leading to hurting religious sentiments of Hindus. Unpardonable indifference of Administration is causing harm to environment. Instead of giving options like use of idols made of clay and natural colours, drives for donation of idols and immersion in artificial water tanks are undertaken; but idols collected through such drives are later, thrown as trash; betraying sentiments of Ganesh-devotees.

Demand will be made to file cases against those responsible for desecration of idols.

On 9th May 2013, ‘National Green Tribunal (NGT)’ has lifted ban imposed by Gujarat State Government on idols made of Plaster of Paris (PoP) clarifying that Ganesh idols made of PoP did not cause pollution. NGT has also issued orders to the Governments for keeping control over the height of idols and use of natural colours; therefore, drives like donation of idols and immersion in artificial water tanks hurting religious sentiments of Hindus, should be stopped and idols may be immersed in natural water sources as per Dharmashastra, stated Shri. Dharmadhikari.

Shri. Tandale explained various drives undertaken for creating awareness amongst people towards celebration of Ganesh festival ideally as per Dharmashastra.
