Thane : So-called environmentalists are opposing to traditional immersion of Ganesh idols in flowing water by equating it with pollution. Ganesh-devotees are forced at many places to donate their idols or immerse them in artificial water tanks erected by spending crores of rupees. There have been incidents of desecration of donated idols; hurting religious sentiments of Hindus; therefore, stringent action should be taken against those desecrating idols and ban should be imposed on donation and immersion of idols in water tanks. State-wide agitation will be staged for the above demands, warned Shri. Narendra Surve of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) during a press conference held at Thane. Advocate Jayesh Tikhe of Hindu Mahasabha was also present on the occasion and explained the subject to journalists.
Advocate Chetan Baraskar said that Pollution Control Board has time and again advised to prevent damage caused to environment throughout the year, due to chemical factories, sewage water and solid waste; but no action is being taken; however, by accusing Ganesh festival of causing pollution, immersion of idols in flowing water is unnecessarily opposed by fake environmentalists and Municipal administrations which is very unfortunate.
Sanatan Sanstha’s Sou. Nayana Bhagat said that donation of idols and immersion in water tanks should be banned as it hurts religious sentiments of Hindus and instruction should be given to immerse idols in sea, river or flowing water as per ‘Dharmashastra’ was their demand. HJS demanded to file cases against persons denigrating idols.
